Fall has come to Houston

It is chilly- well, to be honest it is cooler.  I don't quite think of low 80's as chilly.  My daughter on the other hand brought out her jacket, zipped and hood on!  And, my youngest daughter's teachers told me I need to pack a jacket- because her long sleeves and blue jeans were not keeping her warm enough!

Without a doubt cooler weather reminds us that we are in a new growing season.  So, as the weather cools and the holidays approach, take the time to enjoy this moment- the moment right before the holiday rush!

Happy Fall!

Website Update

After being off the net for the past month, we are officially back on- http://www.motherearthgardening.com/ is back!  We went off the Internet in order to refocus on our purpose: to provide you with the best product at the best price while keeping an organic approach to gardening.  While, we haven't finished searching for the best products, we have made a fantastic start!  If you are on the look out for composters, rain barrels, or fire pits- look no further than http://www.motherearthgardening.com/.

What is coming: we are focusing on the pest control products, gardening tools and gardening furniture that we offer.  We are digging deep and searching for the best!  We can't wait for our unveiling.

Have a green week!

Website Drama

In discovering our passion for the great outdoors, my husband and I decided to start a twofold business: website with gardening products and a landscaping architecture firm.  What has been the biggest hurdle has been the "web language" that we (aka I) have had to learn.  And, even after two years of this, I am still discovering that I have tons more to learn!  Hopefully, I will become as passionate about the web as I am about the beauty of my yard.  Right now, the yard seems much easier to handle.

It is time to travel back into the "matrix" of my computer, now.

What are the odds?

Lightning strikes the Earth over 100,000 times a day. Of these, 10-20% cause a fire.  Houston, our homebase, is sitting near three fires at the moment: TriCounty Fire, Bastrop Fire, and now the George Bush Park fire.  It is a bit disconcerting to see the smoke, smell the fire and have ashes drop around you.  Wildfires have always been in the news and not a disaster that is literally right around the corner.  Now, with the drought, wildfires are popping up all over.

We went today to Lake Conroe.  It has been drained in an effort to help with water consumption in water.  I was saddened by the sight.  My kids loved it!  They could walk around and find all kind of treasures.  But, I kept thinking that we should be swimming instead of walking.  It is amazing the impact that drought and fire can do on nature.

Reintroduction to Blogging

Wildfires are raging here in Texas.  In fact the ash from one is falling lightly like rain at my house.  We desperately need rain!  I haven't written in this blog for about a year- the reason, I have focused my energy on Facebook and Twitter.  It is not that I have forgotten about this blog, but rather the ease of the other two forms of social media is strong.  I look forward to making more entries here- Mother Gardener!
